INTRODUCTION TO NEGOTIATION
Negotiation is an important life skill. Well what is negotiation? Some formal definition would be:-
1. Negotiation is the formal discussion between two or more interested parties to arrive at a mutually agreed contract to work and shares their resources so that all of them stand to gain.
2. The act of discussing an issue between two or more parties with competing interests with an aim of coming to an agreement.
3. Negotiations are formal discussion in between people who have different aims or intentions, especially in business or politics, during which they try and reach an agreement.
Negotiation skill is quite useful both in our personal and professional life. It may be useful to arrive at an arrangement between the spouses to share the household chores,in settling family disputes, salary negotiation, price negotiation, purchase negotiation, contract negotiation, negotiation for conflict resolution, negotiation for international trade, negotiation to save the hostages in case of a hijack etc.The need for negotiation is quite varied and diverse. It is gaining international recognition. Professionals trained in effective negotiation will have a definite advantage in advancing in their career.
A point to be noted is that a good effective negotiation skill is a learnt skill. Any body willing to take interest and put in the necessary effort can learn the basics and sharpen it by constant application in live situation which comes to him as an opportunity to practice it.
